this can only end well…
We’ve started the last third of our trip! Caitlin was up with the sun to feed us breakfast and we were in the saddle. A short ride led to the ferry from Seattle to the peninsulas and a beautiful view of the city and Mount Rainier. We traveled south through the trees of the Olympic National Forest, through the windy oyster beds of western Washington, and on to the Oregon coast. Saw the Pacific and couldn’t leave without a quick swim even though neither of us remembered our wetsuits.
We pushed on down the coast and battled rush hour traffic to downtown Portland. We had a mini Hempfield Reunion at Cascade brewery, Which specializes in sour beers. We experienced some great Portland hospitality with a barbecue in the Southeast and got to sleep with a roof over our head.
The next morning we woke up, packed up the bikes and headed down to downtown Portland for some voodoo donuts. Five donuts and 3 cups of coffee later we were to hit the road and start heading east.
We rode along the winding Columbia River Gorge to the town of Hood River, Racing trains and riding through narrow tunnels. all the way. After a stop at Full Sail brewing Company to refuel we pushed on to Louis and Clark trail state park. After leaving the Columbia River we rode through endless verdant green hills of wheat.
We pulled into the Louis and Clark State Park and set up our tents for our first night of camping on the trip.
Next stop is Missoula Montana!
